Funeral Service for Deacon Lorenza Mitchell were held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel Duff, Officiating. Rev. Aquilla Pack, Pastor. Interment, Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Butler, AL.
Deacon Lorenza was born August 9, 1934 to Leroy, Sr. and Willie Mae Mitchell in Butler, Alabama, who preceded him in death.
He joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until his health failed him. He was a Deacon for many years. He loved to fish, loved baseball, and was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. He was a hard worker and a great provider for not only his family, but his siblings as well.
In 1956, he was united in holy matrimony to Geraldine Mitchell, and to this union, 9 children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Mitchell; three sons, Robert, Lewis, and Alonza Mitchell; one daughter, Carolyn Mitchell, and 10 siblings.
Lorenza is survived by his four daughters: Vanessa McDonald of Meridian, Mississippi; Stephanie Mitchell of Demopolis, Alabama; Gloria Mitchell and Cheryl Maye, both of Butler, Alabama; one son, Caleb Mitchell of Butler, Alabama; fourteen (14) grandchildren, ten (10) great-grandchildren, two (2) great-great grandchildren; one sister, Minister Saddie Jones of Sacramento, California; a devoted son-in-law, Derrick Maye of Butler, Alabama; one daughter-in-law, Gloria Mitchell of Pennington, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
