Dexter Slay

Funeral Service for Dexter Slay were held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Weatherly-Studdard Memorial Funeral Chapel, 111 Vanity Fair Avenue, Butler, AL. Rev. Floyd Hunter, Officiating. 

Dexter Slay was born June 5, 1959 in Huntsville, Alabama to Albert Jackson Sr. and Mary Virginia Slay-Jackson, both of whom preceded him in death.

Dexter joined the United States Army in 1977 and served for 8 years before receiving an Honorable Discharge.  Throughout his years, Dexter lived in several states, including Georgia and Ohio, before settling in Alabama, where he married his loving and devoted wife, Annie P. Grant (Lisman, AL), to which he remained married until his passing at Merit Hospital in Biloxi, MS.

He leaves the following to cherish his memory: his four children, Monica Slay (Huntsville, AL), Dexter Jerome Slay, (St. Paul, MN), Britney Dixon and Jazmyne Scott-Jones, (Springfield, OH); five step-children: Kimkeshia Johnson (Huntsville, AL), Elliotanta (Kelvin) Gray, (Gulfport, MS), Kendrick Johnson, (Fayetteville, GA), Deon Johnson, (Portland, OR), and an especially devoted stepson, Elliott Johnson Jr., (Douglasville, GA); four brothers: Tim (Pam) Slay, (Huntsville, AL), with the following three preceding him in death—Alvin D. Jackson, Wendell Slay and Tyler Jackson; three sisters: Sylvia Humphreys, (Huntsville, AL) Cassandra Jackson, (Huntsville, AL), and Cassie Slay, who also preceded him in death.  Seven grandchildren: Dynastie Slay, Zai’shawn Buggs, and King Slay, of (St. Paul, MN); Justyce Bush, Jurnee Bush, Jovan “Joey” Bush, and Jream Bush, all of (Springfield, OH); his brother-in-law, Jerry (Brenda) Grant, (Sarasota, FL); his sister-in-law, Lula (Larry) Coleman, (Cromwell, AL); two loving nephews: Laron (Tamika) Coleman (Huntsville, AL) and Marcel Johnson; his close friend, Derrick Coleman, (Lisman, AL), and close cousins, Karen Fields, Gerald Sullivan, and Corey Drake; two special aunts: Louise Haynes (Bakers, LA) and Annie Margaret Matthews, (Indianapolis, IN); lastly, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
