Service for Sister Pearlie Lee Tyson, age 88, was held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Butler, AL with Rev. Gerald Goodman officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pearlie Lee Tyson was born on March 17, 1934 to the late Joseph Henry and Lena Jane Coleman. She departed this life on September 26, 2022 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayse Tyson; her parents, Joseph and Lena Coleman; sisters, Annie B. Jeter, Ora Turner, Mary Yancey, Ruth Taylor; brothers, James Benjamin Coleman, J.C. Coleman, and B.C. Coleman.
Pearlie received Christ at an early age and joined Fairview Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, AL. She later joined St. Mary’s United Methodist Church and was a loyal and faithful member until her health began to fail.
She worked in the Choctaw County School System as a bus driver and cafeteria worker. After many years of service, she retired. Pearlie was known for her great baking skills, as well as her singing. She was a “gospel songbird,” travelling around from church to church spreading her love through song.
Pearlie leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Shirley Kelley, Ronald Ridgeway, both of Butler, AL, Vanessa (Alphonso) Wilson, Meridian, MS, Terenia (Ronald) Office, Butler, AL; twenty-eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three great- great grandchildren; siblings, Willie Turner, Fayetteville, GA, Lena Washington, Joseph (Geraldine Wilson) Coleman and Ethel (John) Edwards, all of Columbus, OH; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three devoted friends, Rose Williams, Lillie Carter, Suzette Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
