Funeral Services for Edna Rene Frost were held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Pineville Missionary Baptist Church, 302 Melvin Road, Gilbertown, AL.  Rev. Dr. Lewis Jefferson, Pastor & Officiant.  Interment, Kaiser Hill Cemetery, Gilbertown, AL.

Sis. Edna (Rene) was born to the late General (Gin) and Kate Nicholson on March 28, 1943, in Toxey, AL.  She departed this life and entered eternal rest on February 14, 2024, at the residence of her daughter, Zina, in Butler, AL.

Sis. Edna joined the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Melvin, AL at an early age. After uniting in marriage to Bro. Dannie Frost, she later joined the Pineville Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbertown, AL.  She was a devoted and dedicated member at Pineville until her death.  She served as Chief Usher for 50+ years.  She took her duties as Chief Usher seriously, and enjoyed serving the members, visitors, and the Pastors, making sure they had water, juice, etc.  Rarely did she miss attending to funerals or other activities at the church.  She traveled to other churches to assist as needed.  She served as Treasurer of the Ladies Home Mission and was a Sunday School Reporter.  She was an avid Sunday School attendee.  The class members often enjoyed her understanding of the lesson.  Sis. Edna served as church mother, jointly alongside other ladies of the Church.

Sis. Edna graduated from Melvin High School on May 23, 1961.  Sis. Edna was united in holy matrimony to Dannie Lee Frost on November 17, 1962, in Butler, AL.  Through this union, two children were born. 

She declined the offer by her father to become a teacher and instead chose to become a wife, later a mother, and homemaker for her family. Years later, after her children were teenagers, she decided to enter the workforce.  Her first job was part-time custodian at First Baptist Church of Gilbertown.  She then worked as custodian at the United States Post Office in retired from Franklin Primary Health Center.  She enjoyed the Post Office and Health Center where she met many people.

Sis. Edna enjoyed going to church, being outside, gardening, growing flowers, cooking for her family, watching the soaps, Law and Order SVU with her granddaughter, Raven.  Sis. Edna had a great sense of humor, always cracking jokes with her children, grandchildren, and friends.  Friends would often say, “I can’t wait to hear what funny things your mom has to say.”

Sis. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Gin and Kate Nicholson; husband, Dannie Frost (58 years) Gilbertown, AL; two brothers, Earl (Mary) Nicholson, Cliffwood, New Jersey and Willie G. (Lillie Ruth) Nicholson, Belle Glade, FL; granddaughter, Karen Frost; and two great-grandchildren of Wetumpka, AL; sister-in-law, Charlie E. (L.C) Foster Albany, NY; brother-in-law, Dea. Earnest (Mary) Frost, Sr. Gilbertown, AL; and William (Gertrude) Frost, Toxey, AL.

Remembering our loved one; daughter, Zina Ridgeway Butler, AL; son, Anthony Q. (Carolyn) Frost, Wetumpka, AL; four grandchildren, Kisha Frost, Terrence Q. Frost (Ashley), Kim (Christopher) Williams, all from Wetumpka, AL, and Raven Ridgeway of Butler, AL;  10 great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kirsten  Chrissy, Christiana, Dekyrien, Dakivriuna, Makenzie, Kylie, and Teyanna  Wetumpka, AL; Ari, Butler AL; and a host of family and friends.

Sis. Edna had a modest spirit and demeanor.  She patterned her life as a Proverbs 31 WOMAN; Her Pearls of Wisdom included “Live Within Your Means”, “Don’t Live to Keep Up with the Joneses”, “Never Be Broke”, “Don’t do or say anything you will have to apologize or pray for later on. Other words, “guard your mouth and actions.”  Sis. Edna loved her family, friends, and church family; to all of you live well and take care.
