Funeral Service for Bonnie Jean Kirksey, age 71, was held Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Needham, AL with Pastor Kennedy R. Gray officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Bonnie Jean Kirksey was born May 8, 1951 to the late Pervis Bonner and Eula Mae Bonner of Toxey, AL. She departed this earthly life on March 12, 2023 at Ochsner Choctaw General Hospital in Butler, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pervis and Eula Mae Bonner; a daughter, Michelle Kirksey; four sisters, Bertha Walker, Ollie Mae Powell, Ceola Pitts, Carlene Kirksey; and three brothers, Perf Pervis Bonner Jr., Wilmer Bonner, and Otto Bonner.
Bonnie attended Melvin School and later joined Oak Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and spending time with family. She resided in Mobile, AL for many years before returning to Toxey to spend time with her loved ones. She was united in holy matrimony to Elijah Kirksey and to this union five children were born.
Bonnie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Elijah Kirksey; a daughter, Mary (Leroy) Kyser of Mobile, AL; three sons, Jamie and Gregory Kirksey, both of Needham, AL, Collier (Shanell) Kirksey of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Bobbie Jean Lewis of Toxey, AL, Patricia (Tony) Brownie of Meridian, MS, Eldean Nicholson and Mildred Jones, both of Needham, AL; three brothers, Rodger Lee (Pearlie) Bonner of Mathersville, MS, Sanford (Gale) Bonner of Freehold, NJ, Cecil (Arlene) Knight of Butler, AL; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nine great- great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, including two devoted nieces, Michelle Lewis and Gloria Phillips.
