Josephine Hawkins Coleman

Homegoing Services for Josephine Hawkins Coleman were held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, 2975 Tuscahoma Road, Butler, Alabama with Rev. Antroy D. Gavin, Officiating.  Rev. Wendell Charleston, Pastor.  Interment, Fairview Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sis. Josephine Hawkins Coleman, a native of the Mt. Sterling community, traded time for eternity on Monday, April 1, 2024, at her home in Butler, AL.  She was born on June 12, 1952, to the late Samuel Hawkins and Lula Lott Hawkins.

She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. L.W. Kennibrew, where she served faithfully as an usher, Sunday school teacher, and secretary until her death.

She was employed at multiple places. Her main focus of employment was the Choctaw County School System where she worked for years and later retired.  She didn’t allow her retirement to stop her from being a service for the Choctaw County School System.  She really loved working and being there as if it was her second home.

She was united in holy matrimony to Dec. Clarence Coleman and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Nathan Brown and Samuel Hawkins Jr.; two sisters, Myra Walker and Annette Jackson; two sons-in-law, James Jackson, Sr. and Curtis Dixon. Josephine leaves to cherish her memories: a loving devoted husband of 53 years, Dec. Clarence Coleman of Butler, AL: three daughters, Printella (James, Sr.-deceased) Jackson of Barlow Bend, AL; Tolesha (Curtis-deceased) Dixon of Nanafalia, AL; Samantha (Johnathan) Ruffin of Butler, AL; eight grandchildren, James Jackson Jr., Kadeshia (Kristin) Coleman, Lynia Coleman, Claudia Jackson, Jontavius Ruffin, Shamyia Lewis, Ameena Ruffin, and Lakeisha (Keith) Washington; eleven great-grandchildren, Keith Coleman, Harmonii Robins, Kyla Coleman, Sammion Robins, Addeidra January, Braelyn Blackmon, Kysley Dean, Zakyeron, Keith, James and Journie Washington; one sister, Mary Bell Thomas; god-mother, Elmira Carter; special friends, Peggy Brown and Bessie Ray; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
