Funeral Service for Walter L. "Jeep" Capers was held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, 7435 Pine Grove Road, Ward, Alabama 36922. Interment, St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. Bishop James Capers, Eulogist. Rev. Linda Sims-Lilly, Pastor.
Walter L. "Jeep" Capers was born on August 28, 1955, in Ward, Alabama to the union of L.J. Capers and Mother Sallie Spencer.
Walter departed this life on November 20, 2025, at University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Walter was preceded in by his father, L.J. Capers, and his brother, Robert. E. Capers.
Walter confessed Christ at an early age and joined Edna Mission Methodist Church in Ward, Alabama. He later became a member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, Ward, Alabama.
Walter was a 1973 graduate of the Choctaw County High School, Butler, Alabama. In 1974, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He served his country proudly for many years. Walter was employed at James River Corporation (Georgia Pacific) of Pennington, Alabama for 38 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, as well as bowling, and he was amazing at the game of pitching horseshoes. Walter was a member of the Golden Gate Lodge #654.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife of 34 years, Sabrina Capers, Ward, Alabama; his children: Aisha Alston, Pennington, Alabama; Walter Capers, Jr., Pennington, Alabama; Kendrick Thompson, Ward, Alabama; RaShonda Ward, Whitfield, Alabama; Rayvan Capers, Ward, Alabama; bonus children, raised as his own: Kintraviya Chess, Ward, Alabama and Semaj Muhammed, Ward, Alabama; 16 grandchildren; his mother, Mother Sallie Mae (Tillma) Spencer, Ward, Alabama; his siblings: Dorothy Jones, Mobile, Alabama; Vinnie Johnson, Mobile, Alabama; Emma Thompson (Keith), Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Mattie Capers, Ward, Alabama; Johnny Capers (Linda), Ward, Alabama; Joe Spencer, Jr. (Sandra), Meridian, Mississippi; Charles Spencer, Linden, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and family and friends.
