Funeral services for Wade Hampton were held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 @ 11:00am at Lavaca Community Church in Lavaca, Alabama with Rev. Linda Hollinger officiating. Interment followed at Red House Memorial Gardens in Butler, Alabama.

Wade Hampton was born June 15, 1936 to Laura Peoples Hampton and Benjamin Silas Hampton.  He departed this earthly life on February 11, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 yrs., Willie Jean Hampton and three children, Tyrone (Gwendolyn), Ricardo (Charlotte), and Ronald (Mary Ann) of Butler, Alabama.

At the age of 9, Wade began working with his father earning wages to help support his family. That is believed to be the beginning of his impeccable work ethic.

Wade joined St. Mary CME Church at an early age. He later moved his membership to Thompkinville AME Zion Church (his wife's church) where he remained faithful until his death. One of his greatest delights was singing with the Echoes of Zion Gospel Singing Group who traveled across Alabama and Mississippi performing at various churches and events.

Wade was the 43rd black man to be hired at Marathon Mills (now Georgia Pacific). He retired from GP as a salaried supervisor after 39 years of service.

Wade Hampton is survived by three children, Alphonso (Sylvia), Alan, and Ouida (Thomas); 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great- great grandchildren.
