Ptomey
Dec 2, 1940 — Jun 27, 2025
Birmingham
Virgien Netta Ptomey was born to the late Virgil and Alfreda Studdard on December 2, 1940. Virgien accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of Sixth Ave Baptist Church where she found strength and community.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother. Great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, educator, and friend. She loved nothing more than fellowshipping with her family and loved ones and she was known for her open heart and warm spirit. In addition to her biological children, Virgien lovingly raised and cared for a host of "outside" children offering themthe same love and nurturing she gave her own.
Virgien graduated from Alabama State University in 1965 with a degree in Education. She retired from Birmingham City Schools in 2005. She had a passion for education and working with the youth.
On June 26, 2025, Virgien transitioned to be with the Lord. While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind and of unwavering faith, dedication to family, and an enduring love that will live on for generations to come.
