Service for Sylvester "Leon" Parson, age 71, was held Saturday, October 21, 2023 @ 1:00pm at Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Butler, AL with Rev. Kennith Jefferson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Sylvester Parson was born September 4, 1952, to the late Nettie Rackley and Eddie Lee Parson, Jr. He departed this earthly life on October 15, 2023 at his home in Griffin, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie Rackley and Eddie Parson, Jr.; his daughter, Andrea Nicole Pearson; and his sister, Earline Bryant.

Sylvester joined Butler Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age. In later years, he joined Faith UMC in Griffin, GA. He was a member of the United Methodist Men, Usher Board, and served on the SPRC.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Margaret Parson; one daughter, Daphne (Roderick) Mayfield of Tuscaloosa, AL; two sons, Stacey Parson of Detroit, MI and Daniel (Kelly) Freeman of Mount Vernon, WA; five grandchildren, Roderick Mayfield, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL; Kamryn Givens and Noel Parson of Detroit, MI; Kylar Freeman and Brooklyn Freeman of Mount Vernon, WA; one sister, Thorise (Harry) Cunningham of Butler, AL; brothers, Rudell (Sidney) Rackley of San Antonio, TX, Larry Rackley of Butler, AL; a sister-in-law, Patricia Peeples of Reidsville, GA; three aunts, Bessie (Danny) Brown, Judy R. Eddie, and Ruth Rackley of Butler, AL; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
