Funeral Service for Sherman Lamar Ruffin was held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, 40489 Highway 10, Sweet Water, Alabama 36782.  Rev. Kelvin Johnson, Pastor & Officiant.  Interment, New Mt. Mariah Baptist Church Cemetery, Nanafalia, Alabama.

Sherman Lamar Ruffin was born on August 27, 1976, to Ulysses Ruffin and Gwendolyn Williams Ruffin.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Little Hope Baptist Church, Lisman, Alabama where he served faithfully until his health failed.  He was a graduate of Choctaw County High School Class of 1995 in Butler, Alabama.

For many years, Sherman had several jobs.  He worked at Avery Dennison, Walmart, Assembly Tech at Adient, Utility Person at Omni, Security Officer at Security Engineers, Inc., and a Direct Care Worker at East Mississippi State Hospital.  Sherman loved his family.

Sherman was preceded in death by his father: Ulysses Ruffin; his mother: Gwendolyn Williams Ruffin; his grandparents: Charlie Ruffin, Fannie Keeton Ruffin and Mamie Sue Williams; his niece: Tierra Chante Wimbley; and his brother, Jesse Ruffin.

He leaves to cherish his passing, three loving sisters: Sheila Williams Gamble of Nanafalia, Alabama; Tammy (James) May of Ward, Alabama and Eula Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers: Mario (Ashia) Williams of Prattville, Alabama and Wesley Ruffin of Yantley, Alabama; one sister-in-law: Loretta Ruffin of Yantley, Alabama.  Sherman will also be remembered by a special niece: Falencia Williams, who held a special place in his heart; a goddaughter: Alaysia Burks of Newton, Mississippi.  He leaves precious memories with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
