A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Leon Brown was held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, 979 Sandy Cut Road, Butler, AL with Pastor Aquilla Pack, Officiating.
Leon was born on December 3, 1954, in Choctaw County to the late Lemmie Kennedy and Melissa Brown Winston. He was raised by his stepfather, Azriah "Moot" Winston.
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Fairview Baptist Church, Butler, AL and later joined Salem Baptist Church, Butler, AL.
He graduated from Choctaw County High School in 1974. Leon was known for his kindness, integrity, and unshakable dedication to his family and community. His gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him, and he will forever be remembered for his quiet strength, wisdom, and compassion.
Leon departed this earthly life on October 5, 2024. A man of unwavering faith, Leon believed in the power of love and service. He spent his life helping others through his work in many professions. Those who had the privilege of knowing him could always count on his support, a listening ear, and a heart full of empathy. Leon leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever illuminate the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lemmie Kennedy Jr., and Raymond Kennedy of Ohio.
He is survived by his children: Jamarcus Brown (Brittany) of Montgomery, AL and Ashley Hampton (Christopher) of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Jaylen Brown, Ashlyn Brown, Chelsea Brown, all of Montgomery, AL, and Kyndall Hampton (2025); siblings, Larry Winston (Vanessa) of Butler, AL, Lisa Winston, Mary Winston of Butler, AL, Jennifer Williams (Glenn) of Maryland, Rosaline Robinson of Butler, AL, Mark Kennedy, and Larry Gaines; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, who will miss him dearly.
Leon was a man who lived life with humility and grace, always putting others before himself, and leaving a legacy of love and generosity. Though Leon is no longer with us, his spirit, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
