Obituary

Graveside Services were held for Dr. George W. Tinsley on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Jackson Memorial Cemetery, County Road 7, Sweet Water, Alabama with Rev. Keith Howell, Officiating.

George Wallace Tinsley was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 05, 2023 at his residencein Sweet Water, Alabama at the age of 89. George was born to the late Governor Tensley Sr. and Pearlie Washington on October 18, 1933.

Confessing Christ at an early age, George joined Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He knew that he loved God and wanted to live as a Christian Servant. He wore many hats in his years of service, where he fulfilled the duties as a Deacon,Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and as a member of the Usher Board.

George was educated in the public schools of Marengo Countyand was a 1953 graduate of Marengo High School, where he made history as being the first Homecoming King. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and actively served until 1962, where he was honorably discharged. He was a 19-year employee of MacMillian Bloedel (Weyerhauser) as a saw mill operator until his medical retirement. One to not settle for anything in life, Dr. Tinsley obtainedhis Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate in Christian Education from the E.L. White Theological Seminary in Prichard, AL.

George was a beloved member of the Coxheath Community. He was a member of the Sweet Water Lodge #755 for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an avid bible reader, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Governor Tensley, Sr. and Pearlie Washington; three siblings, Calvin Tensley, Alexander Tensley, and Clementine Mitchell; his daughter, Dorothy Jean Tinsley.

He met his wife, InezWilliams, at Independent Missionary Baptist Church. They marriedJune 25, 1963 and went on to have seven children. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. He leaves to forever cherish his memory: Inez Tinsley, a wife of 62 years; 5 daughters, Eileen Fuller (Rev. David Fuller), Celeste Patterson (Clyde), Danetta Nelson (Anthony), Danita Coleman, Crystal Curtis (Gary); 1 son, Stanley Tinsley. He also leaves a brother, Governor Jeff Tensley (GJ) and 1 sister, Jessie McDonald; 4 brothers-in law, Willie Williams (Elaine), James William (Jackie), Leon Williams (Mary), Rev. Larry Williams; 2 sisters-in law, Helen Williams, Lula Grayson (Aaron); nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is a grandfather of 22 and great grandfather of 24. He will be forever missed, but will forever remain in our hearts.
