Service for Gene Barry Sims, age 59, was held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 11:00am at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Gilbertown, AL with Rev. Cleo McGrew, Sr. serving as Eulogist.

Gene was born on July 14, 1961 in Toxey, AL to Willie Roosevelt Sims and Ruthie Mae Evans-Sims. He departed this life on July 2, 2021 at Choctaw General Hospital in Butler, AL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruthie Mae Evans-Sims and a brother-in-law, Robert Brookins.

Gene leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Patrick L. Sims of Toxey, AL, Samantha L. Sims of Melvin, AL; a special friend, Linda Phillips of Toxey, AL; five sisters, Bettye S. Brookins of Melvin, AL, Peggy (Carl) Bynum of Pikeville, NC, Alesia (Billy) Hicks of Seattle, WA, Sandra Sims of Albany, NY; two brothers, Willie (Stella) Sims of Toxey, AL, Corey (Shawnda) Nelson of Augusta, GA; four grandchildren, Kemonei Sims, London Watters, Cayden Adams, Karter Alise Jones; his father, Roosevelt Sims; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
