Funeral Services for Evelyn D. Sims were held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1120 Sparks Road, Toxey, AL 36921.  Rev. Bobby Sanders, Officiating.  Interment, St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, Toxey, AL.

Evelyn D. Sims was born on February 7, 1946, to the late Gabriel and Ilover Sims.  She departed this life on July 26, 2024, at USA Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel and Ilover Sims; daughter, Latrice Sims; two brothers, Leroy Sims and Gabriel Sims Jr., and a sister, ZayLee Pace Harris.

She was a longtime resident of the Hodgewood community of Toxey, AL.  At an early age, she joined St. Paul United Methodist Church in Toxey, AL.

She was the salutatorian of her graduating class of Melvin High School.  She spent a year continuing her education in Huntsville, AL, before returning home to care for her parents until their passing.  She would later become an employee of Choctaw Manufacturing in Silas, AL, for more than 30 years, until her retirement.  Evelyn took pride in being the historian of the family.  She was an unbelievable cook and provider.

She leaves to cherish her memories: son, DaBarion Taylor of Toxey, AL; two brothers, Roosevelt Sims of Melvin, AL, Ural Sims of Albany, NY; five sisters, Mildred (Willie) Baskin of Chicago, IL, Virginia (Robert) Mitchell of Mobile, AL, Bernice Fludd of Albany, NY, Elaine (Alton) Davis of Duncanville, TX, Doreatha (Leroy) Hawthorne of Daphne, AL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
