Service for Sister Elena Dunn Ward, age 89, was held Friday, January 28, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Morning Star Baptist Church with Rev. A.L. Smith officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Sister Elena Dunn Ward was born May 15, 1932 to John and Josephine Hudson-Dunn of Pennington, AL. She entered eternal rest unexpectedly on January 21, 2022 at the home of her caregiver/daughter. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur George White; her second husband, Benny Edward Ward; sons, Coleman White, John Wesley (Sherry) Dunn; daughter, Sgt. Evelyn Dunn (David)
Colley; stepdaughter, Annie Pearl Ward-Steele; and siblings, Alice Hudson (Bruce) Bryant, Colonel (Mary Lee) Dunn, Della Dunn, John Dunn, Charles Hudson, Alma Woodward, and five others whose names were lost over the years.

Sister Elena was called to serve at an early age and began her Christian discipleship at Millwood Primitive Baptist Church in Pennington, AL.
She was later led to Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church to be a faithful doorkeeper in the house of the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Jeremiah (Beverly) White of Mobile, AL; three daughters, Anita Dunn, Ward, AL, Angela Ward, Demopolis, AL, Beni Lee Ward, Ward, AL; one step-daughter, Wanda (Dankie) Ward-Chess, Ward, AL; a host of grandchildren, two devoted, Quentina (Stanley) Ward-Thompson, Tommy James Hooper, III; twelve great-grandchildren; three friends, Emma Cottrell of Ward, AL, Julia Carter, Mildred Jackson, both of Butler, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.
