Funeral Service for Ms. Berda Lee Philon Law was held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 2294 Womack Hill Road, Gilbertown, Alabama with Pastor-Elect, Rev. Curtis Blakely, Officiating. Interment, Little Place Cemetery, Womack Hill Community.

Berda Lee Philon Law was born on March 10, 1935, in Womack Hill, AL, to the late Bodie Philon and Willie Hazel Pace Philon. She spent her early childhood years in Womack Hill where she grew up surrounded by adoring parents, family, and a loving community where everybody was somebody. She professed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized and united with the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Womack Hill, Alabama.

Berda sought not only the basic education, she furthered her pursuits through obtaining continued studies at the Miller’s Ferry Normal and Industrial School, Bishop College in Mobile, Alabama; began studies at Tuskegee University, and finally graduating in 1959 at Alabama State University with a degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies-Library Education.

The journey didn’t stop there. There were dreams and hopes to fulfill. Still a young woman, she headed West. Once there, Berda’s resume’ would find her wearing many different hats, as she looked to find herself and her place in life. Her proudest moment was when she began her solid career with the Space and Missile Systems Office (SAMSO) around 1978. An organization that oversaw the first launch of the Defense Support Program, all under the Department of Defense – US Air Force. She retired in 2001 after 23 years in support of their mission.

Berda was strong, ambitious, and a will like no other. Very meticulous in her doings and a daughter that most mothers would love to have around the house. Everything is done decently and in order. Her caring and giving spirit brought her home after retirement to care for her ailing father. It took the strength of a mighty warrior to accomplish this feat, but she did it.

Berda reunited with Mt. Pleasant upon her return, where she lifted her voice singing praises with the church choir. All the time she was facing challenges of her own. Never knowing that slowly, this illness was creeping and stealing her mind. It was brushed away by saying, that’s just Berda. Finally, it became evident that it was more than just incidents. With no one to give her the care she really needed, she was placed in Arabella Health Facility. There she remained under care until she entered the last mile of her journey and our Lord and Savior carried her home on Sunday, September 20th near the end of the day.

Berda was the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by mother and father; brother, Wallace Philon; sister, Virginia Philon Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory, brother, Harold Philon; sister, Beverly Philon Burruss. Beloved nieces and nephews: Linda Davis, Menyon Davis, Damon Washington, Brian Washington, Jonathan Burruss. Twenty-five great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews.

Among those that she cherished is cousin, Minister Lola Ruffin, who brought laughter and joy when she would visit and the many family and friends that kept her in prayer.
