Hampton
Aug 11, 1930 — May 6, 2026
Butler
Sister Annie Ruth Hampton, lovingly known as Mama Ruth, Aunt Dolly, and Cousin Dolly, was born on August 11, 1930, in Butler, Alabama, to Agnew and Lula Turner. She was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Willie Turner; her sister, Edna Mae Turner; and her sons, Robert Hampton, Walter Hampton, and Tommie Hampton.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted servant of the Lord throughout her life. At Fairview, she served diligently as a Sunday school teacher, usher, church secretary, treasurer, and President of the Young Matrons. Sister Annie Ruth Hampton faithfully served her church for more than 85 years, until her health no longer allowed her to attend.
In 1945, she married Tommie Lee Hampton, and their union was blessed with eight children: Pearlena, Ann, Tommie, Hollie, Earlena, Jerry, Robert, and Walter. Sister Annie Ruth Hampton exemplified perseverance and strength. She worked for many years at Sparrow Cleaners and retired from Vanity Fair, while carefully saving and building a home large enough to welcome any family member in need of a place to call home.
Sister Annie Ruth Hampton was well known for her generosity, kindness, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and service to her family, community, and countless friends and loved ones. She was especially cherished for the wisdom she freely shared with everyone she encountered. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: Pearlena (Johnny) Vines of Butler, Alabama; Ann Sims-Doty of Chicago, Illinois; Hollie (Susie) Hampton of Lisman, Alabama; Earlena Hampton of Butler, Alabama; and Jerry (Wanda) Hampton of Northport, Alabama; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
